Formwork Apprenticeships Start date: September 2023

Formworkers contribute to the construction of projects through the preparation, installation and quality management of all stages of the formwork and falsework process. 

Preparing falsework that provides temporary support structures for forms and undertake formwork. This includes producing panels and fittings that mould to form a desired shape for re enforcing and subsequently for concrete to be poured into, creating slabs, support beams, columns and walls.

They are involved in the entire envelope of the construction industry: including all the major over ground and underground projects across the UK. The skills gained can be used world-wide and can also be a stepping stone to for your career i.e. supervisory and management roles.

As a Formworker, you will be responsible for using casts to form concrete slabs, support beams and walls, to support the building process during construction.

The job role of a Formworker involves the following duties: 

  • Creating forms for bridges, foundations, beams and staircases
  • Building structures on site using wood or putting together metal frames that have been made elsewhere
  • Dismantling casts without damaging them, so that they can be used again
  • Measuring, cutting and shaping wood or metal 
  • Working closely with your team to pour concrete into moulds
  • Checking work for accuracy
  • Producing concrete blocks of exactly the right shape and size for whatever needs building.

Qualification 

  • Level 2 Formworker Apprenticeship Standard
  • Functional Skills English and Maths Level 1 or 2 if  applicable

Entry requirements: No qualifications needed just a desire to work and learn.

Salary & Terms & Conditions: Salary competitive, 40 Hour week, 24 days holiday

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7.30 am-4.30 pm
